PUMA FOOTBALL: PORTUGAL TEASER
Ten days.
It’s not a lot of time to make anything, let alone a film.
But when you’re changing the course of football history, the deadline is the deadline.
We couldn’t let the Puma guys down.
IT WAS A MASSIVE STORY IN THE FOOTBALL WORLD…
Portugal, who wore Nike for twenty-seven years, were switching their kits to Puma.
Naturally, Puma wanted to broadcast this. But due to a creative false-start, they found themselves two weeks from deadline without a teaser film.
So they asked for our help.
We quickly put pen to paper, devising an attention-grabbing teaser concept we knew could deliver in ten working days.
We did it like this:
We took the client’s teaser message — Puma arrives in Portugal — and distilled it into two essential components:
Intrigue and style.
Everything else we left behind.
Intrigue: we wanted to show a big cat loose in the streets of Lisbon. This literal interpretation of the message felt like a shortcut to more eyeballs on social.
Style: we had to find a visual style that was cool but forgiving. We would likely be mashing up a wide variety of filmed materials and avoiding a shoot if possible — we just didn’t have the time.
When we landed on the lo-fi security camera aesthetic, the rest fell into place.
This film was built from a broad range of disparate sources, including found/stock footage, captured mobile content, public domain webcam feeds, AI generated moments, bespoke motion graphics and Rascal VFX sequences.
Once assembled, we ran our visuals through a vintage DV cam to push them further into the ‘camcorder’ world.
This project was delivered on time and budget. Obviously. Puma were delighted with the results and used our little film to tease their global announcement.
